Our Vision

The WV Foundation envisions a future in which the problem of veteran homelessness in the United States has been eradicated. We advance toward a world in which returning service members have sufficient and lasting support for battling the interconnected afflictions that affect their population: deteriorating mental health, addiction, and joblessness.

Our History

The WV Foundation (WVF) was founded in 2018 by Arabia Veggecado and Devern Woodard, but the roots of WVF run deeper still. In 2014, Devern and Arabia opened their first business together, WV Acquisitions (WVA). WVA was established to purchase and fix up distressed homes. From the beginning, when Arabia and Devern rented out their newly renovated properties through WVA, they utilized their connections to work exclusively with veterans, a community with whom they both have close ties. Before long, the operation became more than merely providing vets with housing.

Arabia and Devern began pouring their time, resources, and hearts into helping their tenants reintegrate into society. They believe that true change is born of sacrifice, and they were willing to put in the work. For them, it was never just about collecting rent; it was always about helping people in need. Their operation started small with guidance given here and there. But it soon morphed into a 24/7 wraparound support service for veterans and their families. Arabia brought the tenants home-cooked meals twice a week. Devern helped secure separate housing for a veteran who wished to live with his son. Arabia offered transformative mentoring and goal setting for vets striving to reenter the workforce. No problem was too big to handle. They acted as advocates on multiple levels by providing support for rehabilitation placement, family court hearings, food stamp applications, health insurance navigation, and so much more. They even organized annual holiday give-away events where veterans and their families could come to enjoy a hot meal together and leave with new winter clothing and pantry staples.

In December 2018, Arabia and Devern realized they had been doing the work of a non-profit through WV Acquisitions for nearly four years and took steps to make their operation official by founding the WV Foundation. It was a decision that simply made sense.

Housing Solution for Veterans

WVF is proud to provide stable housing to homeless veterans. But our work goes beyond the signing of a lease. Homelessness leaves people feeling vulnerable and is especially hard on veterans who are dealing with underlying health or addiction issues. WVF effectuates change by discovering and fixing the root of a problem so that veterans are able to regain the strength they once knew and the dignity they deserve.
